about

In the early 80's one of my closest friends moved to Southern Ireland to make dulcimers and other instruments. I visited him soon after, but my idea of what Ireland would be like was rooted in the colonial nonsense that it was just another part of Britain. So it was a real cultural shock to me to discover that it was a foreign country, hugely influenced by the Catholic church and entirely different to what I was expecting. The music in particular was a revelation. I saw the Bothy band in Dingle and then ended up spending over a week in Dublin with them, I was even bought a pint by Christy Moore.
So this piece is a reflection on those experiences for me as a young uninformed Englishman, that left a continuing impression on me to this day.

"Rich in percussion and bass, they do have a unique sound which I find hard to describe, a sort of electronic acoustic dubby folk kind of thing with plenty of space."

(From a Terrascope review by Andrew Young).
